Blueberry, Banana, Cocoa Oatmeal and a Smoothie
If I don’t get enough to eat for breakfast then the rest of my day is thrown off course. That’s why I’m pretty attached to my normal breakfast routine of eggs, toast, ham or sausage, and coffee of course. Sometimes, this can be too heavy for me, so I eat oatmeal instead. Certain instant oatmeals are just too sugary for me and plain oats taste like waterlogged bark. I’m actually a firm believer in enjoying your food so I’d like to pass along a healthy and tasty breakfast recipe. I combine my own spices and sweeteners to make a perfectly balanced and flavored oatmeal.
1/2 cup of whole oats
1 teaspoon of cocoa powder
2-3 handfuls of blueberries
1/2 cup pomegranate juice
1 tablespoon of Sencha loose leaf Green Tea
Optional Smoothie – If you would like to have the smoothie with your oatmeal then you will need to steep your green tea in order to allow it some time to cool before you add it to the other smoothie ingredients. Bring 1.5 cups of water to a boil. Once the water has come to a boil, turn off the stove top and add sencha to water. Let steep for approximately 2 minutes. Let your tea sit for 5 minutes to cool off a bit, then add two large cubes of ice and stir the tea to cool it further. Add strawberries, blueberries, cooled green tea (make sure to strain the loose leaves out of the tea before you add it to your blender), and pomegranate juice. Puree.
Oatmeal – Bring one cup of water to a boil. Add boiling water to whole oats. Immediately add 3/4 your teaspoon of cocoa powder to the oatmeal and stir. Allow the oats to soak up the water and seasoning for a minute. Add sliced bananas and blueberries, then sprinkle the remaining cocoa powder on top. Voila!
